Dr. Jack Newman is a Toronto pediatrician who has practiced medicine since 1970. In 1984 he established the first hospital-based breastfeeding clinic in Canada, at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children. There are numerous online resources for breastfeeding parents on the website.

Mothering Touch Breastfeeding Support 
With the support of their midwife, doctor, maternity nurses and public health nurses, most clients learn to breastfeed their babies quite easily in the first days with baby because the hormones their bodies are producing make them very ready to learn. Challenges can arise though and many people benefit from a little extra help and support.

Breastfeeding Matters – South Vancouver Island 
This is a group of health-care professionals and interested individuals that has worked since 1998 to protect, promote and support breastfeeding on Southern Vancouver Island.

BC Babyfriendly Network 
The BC Baby-Friendly Network protects promotes and supports breastfeeding by working towards implementation of the WHO/UNICEF Baby-Friendly Initiative (BFI) in hospitals and community health services throughout the Province, thereby providing mothers, infants and families with excellence in breastfeeding care.

Public Health Units in Langford, Saanich and Victoria
There are several Public Health Nurses with Lactation Consultant certification. These nurses offer support and teaching free of charge. Call the public health unit of your choice to find out when these Breastfeeding clinics are offered.

Katie McNiven Gladman is a Registered Midwife and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. She provides breastfeeding/chestfeeding support services covered by MSP for parents and babies to 6 weeks postpartum, at home and in clinic.
