Many people know about their pregnancy & birth care options through friends and family, from reading books, or articles and websites on the internet. We offer you the opportunity to meet with us to find out about midwifery care at Access Midwifery.

This 45 to 60 minute initial meeting allows for discussion of your plans for this pregnancy. We share information about our scope of practice, the model of midwifery in British Columbia, and your choice of birthplace options. Following this exchange of information, you are free to make the choice of care provider that best suits your needs.

In Victoria, pregnant individuals can choose either a midwife or family doctor for their primary care provider during their pregnancy. There are many similarities and some differences in the models of care between these care providers. Regardless of which provider you choose for your pregnancy care, if you need the services of specialists (obstetricians, pediatricians, nutritionists, lactation consultants) these referrals are available to you through your midwife or doctor.
